2026 "Fishers of Men" Benefit Dinner Keynote Speaker

 The Most Reverend

J. Michael Miller, CSB
Archbishop Emeritus of Vancouver

His Excellency Most Reverend J. Michael Miller, CSB is a distinguished Catholic leader, educator, and theologian who has served the Church in Canada, The United States, and the Vatican. Born in Ottawa in 1946 and ordained to the priesthood by Pope Paul VI in 1975, he earned advanced theological degrees from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and became recognized internationally for his scholarship on the papacy, Catholic education, and modern papal teaching.

Archbishop Miller shares deep ties with the Houston, where in joined the faculty of the University of St. Thomas in 1979. During nearly two decades of service, he served as professor of theology, chair of the Theology Department, dean of the School of Theology at St. Mary's Seminary, vice president for academic affairs, and, finally, president of the University of St. Thomas, helping shape generations of Catholic leaders and students in the region.

In 2003, Pope John Paul II appointed him Secretary of the Vatican’s Congregation for Catholic Education and elevated him to the episcopacy. He later served as Archbishop of Vancouver from 2009 until his retirement in 2025. During that time, he worked with many in the archdiocese to expand ministries, strengthened Catholic education, and established new programs for clergy formation. Today, he continues to serve on numerous educational and charitable boards, including the Board of Directors of the University of St. Thomas. of 2020, by Daniel Cardinal DiNardo at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Anthony in Beaumont.

2026 "Fishers of Men" Honoree

Robert Alcala
Knights of Columbus

We are pleased to honor Robert Alcala, the outgoing Knights of Columbus Galveston-Houston Chapter President and the current Business Manager at St. Jerome Catholic Church, with the 13th Annual "Fishers of Men" Award.

Robert was born and raised a cradle Catholic in Southern California, but he'll be the first to tell you he got to Texas as soon as he could! He has served as an active member of the Knights of Columbus since 2014. Prior to his two-year term as Chapter President, Robert served as Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President. He first joined the Knights while a parishioner at Christ the Redeemer in Houston. Since 2018, he has been a member of Council 10861 at St. Ignatius of Loyola in Spring.

After 37 years in banking, Robert made a profound career change. While on the pilgrimage in Spain known as the Camino de Santiago, he felt the Holy Spirit was calling him away from his corporate life. Following a lot of prayer and discernment, he decided to use his talents and abilities to serve Christ and his Church directly. He accepted the position as Business Manager at St. Jerome Catholic Church in December 2023.

Robert and his wife Christa are blessed with three adult children (Mathew, Michael, and Katherine) and four grandchildren (with another on the way).

We at KSHJ are happy to honor the work Robert and the local Knights of Columbus Chapter do to protect the sanctity of life from conception until natural death, and to promote holy vocations.

The La Promesa Foundation, which operates the Guadalupe Radio Network (GRN), is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity and has been broadcasting in Houston on KSHJ AM 1430 since 2013.

The GRN and Houston's KSHJ radio station are the fruits of a promise made by a group of lay Catholic Texans forming the La Promesa Foundation in 1996. They promised Jesus and His Mother to protect the sanctity of life, evangelize as called for by Baptism, help build strong, holy families, and promote holy vocations. They responded to Pope John Paul II’s call to bring “the good news of Jesus Christ to their culture and society.” They saw Mother Angelica of Eternal Word Television Network shake her finger into the camera and say, “If you, the laity, will buy a radio station, I will give you the programming free.” The first station went on the air in Midland/Odessa in 2000. Today the GRN operates 48 radio stations and reaches a population of more than 31 million potential listeners.

We trust that God, through the generosity of our listeners, donors, and sponsors, will provide the necessary funds to carry out our mission of proclaiming The Holy Name of Jesus and the Truths of His Church through the powerful means of radio and digital media.

We hope you leave the dinner inspired to pray and work for the salvation of souls!
